Central Vacuum Cleaners utilize headers and branch piping that is distributed over a large space with the material being picked up by vacuum and transported through the pipeline to a central location. Engineering of such systems require a layout of the piping, the decision on the size of the branch piping and the main lines. In most cases the size of the pick up nozzle and diameter of the pick up hose determine along with the maximum number of outlets that will be open at one time determine the volume of air required.
In most cases a centrifugal blower is the best choice for the vacuum source as its volume-horsepower characteristics fit the application better. In certain applications, especially where a large amount of product or spill is to be picked up, the positive displacement blower is the best choice.
